Currently, while you can download the application forms online, first-time individual applicants must typically submit their documents to a Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) office in person or via mail if applying from overseas. Our guide provides the most current 2026 submission methods.
Standard adult passport renewals usually take 7–11 business days when applied for in person at PICA offices in Jamaica. Expedited services (Next Day or 3-Day) are available for an additional fee. Overseas applications via consulates may take 20+ business days.
To register a business name (sole trader), you generally need a valid TRN, a government-issued ID (Passport or Driver’s License), and a completed BN1 form. Companies require additional articles of incorporation and a BN2 form.
To retrieve a lost NIS number or register for the first time in 2026, you must submit an R2 Application Form along with your Birth Certificate or Passport to your local Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) office. If you are abroad, you can submit these through the Jamaican Consulate. Our NIS guide provides the latest digital forms and office locations.
