Jamaican sprint queen, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce qualified for her fifth Olympic Games at the age of 37, setting her sights on a third career gold medal in the 100 meters at the Paris Games.

On Friday at the Jamaican Olympic Trials, Fraser-Pryce clocked a time of 10.94 seconds, finishing third behind 200m world champion Shericka Jackson (10.84) and 19-year-old rising star Tia Clayton (10.90). This qualification secures her spot on the Jamaican team for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Fraser-Pryce, an eight-time Olympic medalist, boasts a remarkable career that includes 100m gold medals from the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics, as well as a 4x100m relay gold from the Tokyo 2020 Games. Additionally, she is a 10-time world champion and holds the distinction of being the most decorated Jamaican athlete at the World Championships, with a total of 15 medals, surpassing the legendary Usain Bolt.

During what would be her final competitive appearance at the National Stadium, the patrons serenaded Fraser-Pryce with Taurus Riley’s hit song “She’s Royal,” a fitting tribute to the veteran athlete’s illustrious career and enduring legacy.

The Jamaican sprint legend is set to retire from track and field after this summer, closing an extraordinary chapter in the sport’s history.
