With the Paris Olympics officially underway, Jamaica’s first action at the games came from Ashley McKenzie, who competed in the men’s Judo competition.

McKenzie made history earlier on Saturday with his 10-0 win over Yemen’s Hesham Makabr in preliminary rounds, marking his first Olympic win competing for Jamaica. Despite his efforts, McKenzie was eliminated in the Round of 16 after suffering a 1-0 loss to Turkey’s Salih Yildiz.

This was McKenzie’s third time competing at the Olympics and his first time representing Jamaica. The 35-year-old London-based McKenzie previously represented the UK in his last two Olympics before switching allegiances to Jamaica in 2023.

Team Jamaica will be in action again on August 1 for the 100m heats. Stay tuned for more updates as the games continue.
