Jamaica’s Local Government Election Sees 29.6% Voter Turnout

The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) has announced a preliminary voter turnout of 29.6% for Jamaica’s local government election, slightly lower than the 2016 turnout of 30.06%. The final counting of ballots will be conducted by returning officers in each constituency at designated counting centres starting on Tuesday, February 27.

Over two million eligible voters had the opportunity to cast their votes, with a total of 499 candidates nominated for the election.
