The 41st annual Jamaica Day celebration took place in Montreal last Saturday, organized by the Jamaica Association of Montreal. The event attracted scores of visitors who came to experience Jamaica’s rich and diverse culture through food, music, and other cultural traditions and to celebrate Jamaica’s impact on the world.
For decades, Jamaica Day has invited Montrealers to promote and showcase Jamaican culture. This celebration highlights the island’s vibrant culture and its delicious cuisine, music and lively traditions. The event also featured performances from renowned reggae artist Michael Kennedy, also known as, LukieD
Founded in November 1962, shortly after Jamaica’s Independence, the Jamaica Association of Montreal has grown to become the official organization representing Jamaicans in Montreal at federal, provincial, and municipal levels. The association’s seal of incorporation was granted in 1970, and since its inception, it has continually attracted members and strengthened its presence in the community.
This year’s Jamaica Day celebration in Montreal comes just days before Jamaica is set to celebrate 62 years of independence on August 6, something the event organizers describe as “impeccable timing.”
